This database of

Information on flu
vaccine availablity and flu
prevention. The site also has a catch jingle on flu prevention.
New Asthma Medication Law (AB
2132)
As of Jan. 2005 students are allowed to carry and self administer
their own inhaled asthma medication at school. The new law allows
the student to treat their asthma symptoms immediately in order to
miss less class time. Appropriate forms must be signed by both the
parent and physician. Teachers and staff should alert the office
if any student is carrying an inhaler. The student may then be seen
by the school nurse or the office staff to be evaluated for proper

Ounce of Prevention Campaign
Centers for Disease Control's campaign to provide resources about
handwashing, cleaning and disinfection, and other easy-to-follow
steps in an effort to develop and maintain successful hand hygiene
and cleaning practices, and is aimed at educating a broad consumer
and professional audience.

Local Resources
Contra Costa County Community Awareness and Emergency Response (CAER): Promotes awareness of emergency procedures, especially shelter-in-place. Includes a Kids' Corner with activities for children and information about classroom visits from Wally Wise. Also includes a detailed list of local emergency contacts.
Contra Costa Crisis Center Community Online Resource Database: This database of the Contra Costa Crisis Center contains information about health and human services available to residents of Contra Costa County. Generally, the services described are low-cost or offered for a fee based on income.
Contra Costa Water District: The CCWD's mission is to deliver clean, safe drinking water in an environmentally responsible manner. The district provides a complimentary science and environmental education program which includes grade specific classroom presentations, field trips, watershed visits and school assemblies for schools in the CCWD service area.
Gardens at Heather Farms: CLASSROOM PROGRAMS - Trained docent(s) will come to your classroom to present course material. Each program includes an interactive presentation, hands-on activities and resource materials.
Lawrence Hall of Science: Located in Berkeley, Lawrence Hall of Science (LHS) is a singular resource center for preschool through high school science and mathematics education, and a public science center with exciting hands-on experiences for learners of all ages.
Lindsay Museum: The Lindsay Wildlife Museum is a wildlife rehabilitation and educational center that focuses on native California wildlife and natural history. The museum exhibits live, non-releasable native wildlife in Walnut Creek.
School Violence Tipline This 24-hour school violence tipline (800.863.7600) offers a safe place that students and parents can call anonymously to report weapons on campus, homicidal and suicidal remarks, bullying, homophobic behavior, and other acts leading to violence. We then work with school authorities and/or the police to prevent it. Tipline callers aren't asked their name, and we don't have caller I.D.
Tony La Russa's Animal Resuce Foundation (ARF):
ARF has a wide array of programs and resources for teachers to help spread the message of care and compassion for our companion animals. ARF has a wonderful interactive children's Learning Center, FREE classroom and assembly presentations for schools (that meet California Educational Standards) and the ARF Rescue Patrol--interactive software with a humane message of respect for and care of our animal companions as well as educational curriculum tools for educators.
