Digital Imagery

Digital Imaging with PhotoShop Elements 3
Prerequisites: Basic computer skills
PhotoShop Elements is a user-friendly photo-retouching tool that also allows you to manipulate text, crop images, and create Web-ready graphics. Create your own photo collage, retouch scanned images, and learn how to convert images for Web pages.


Digital Storytelling (Windows XP users)
Prerequisite: Intermediate computer skills, intermediate word processing skills, File Management skills
In this 6-evening class, teachers will learn the art of storytelling in the 21st Century. Use digital tools to tell powerful stories! Digital Storytelling is a great way to engage students in the writing process. By the end of this festival participants will walk away with a completed story and a model to use in the classroom.

Dreamweaver Follow Up Class
Prerequisite: DreamWeaverMX experience or attendance at the two-day DreamWeaver Class
This class will focus on answering questions that you may have about DreamWeaverMX. Participants will need to bring in their websites on a USB storage device, on disk or have them available by Internet. Instruction will be conducted on a one-to-one basis. This class is for people who have already attended a DreamWeaverMX class or are experienced with this application.

FireworksMX - Web Graphic Editor

Images can really enhance a web page if done properly. This means you want to be able to crop, optimize, create, and title your images so they are “clean” and don’t increase the download time for your page. Fireworks is similar to Adobe Photoshop and is Macromedia’s web design graphic manipulation application.

HyperStudio I: Nuts & Bolts
Prerequisite: Basic computer skills
The Multimedia Thinking Tool for Interactive Learning, HyperStudio 4.5 is better than it’s ever been. HyperStudio is the most widely used educational multimedia authoring tool and can be used across all curricular areas. If you’ve been afraid to use HyperStudio in the past, this latest version should take that fear away. iLife I - iPhoto and iTunes*
Prerequisites: iMovie3 or iMovie2 experience
iLife is the integrated package of iMovie3, iPhoto, iTunes and iDVD built specifically for the Mac OS X. Participants will create a story using iPhoto and iTunes and learn how to import from a variety of resources.
The course will also cover basic editing tools in iPhoto, to edit, organize, add copyright information and then use the photos in iMovie. Using iTunes we will add and create song lists from CDs and the Internet.

  • Understand how iPhoto is integrated into iMovie

  • Learn how to import images using scanners and digital cameras

iLife II – iDVD*
Prerequisites: iMovie3 or iMovie2 experience
iDVD is the last application in the iLife series and it’s purpose is to organize content and create a navigation menu that is easy to use on most commercial DVD players. iDVD helps you create professional-looking DVD menus for your iMovie projects, and iPhoto Slideshows with background sound and motion. Participants will learn how to customize templates and create an original template. Participants can bring an edited iMovie project that has been exported back to DV tape or may use the provided class resources.

iMovie3: Digital Storytelling*
Prerequisites: Basic computer skills, basic word processing skills, basic video cameras skills
Digital storytelling has never been easier - Story Board, Shoot, Edit, Enhance, and Present. Learn how to add text, narration, transitions and background music to your videos. iMovie3 is the latest version of the easy-to-use video capturing software that ships with all new Macs.
Participants will have access to a digital video camera, but it is recommended that you bring your own if you do not want to share. The Digital Camera must have FireWire capabilities with a FireWire cable.

  • Gain a basic understanding of storyboarding and using iMovie3 in an educational setting

iMovie3: Tips, Tricks & Plugins*
Prerequisites: Completion of “iMovie3: Digital Storytelling”
iMovie is easy enough for the novice to use, but sometimes you just want to be able to do more. Tips, tricks and plug-ins will help you extend and enhance the power of iMovie. The course will focus on some free and inexpensive plug-ins that can be added to the iMovie resource folder
that will allow you to create some amazing effects like, movie in movie, still pictures over a movie, add animation and other effects. In addition this class will cover creating special effects with text and still images by using other applications like PowerPoint.

Information Literacy for Educators
Prerequisites: Basic computer skills
We have grown increasingly dependent on information gathered from the Internet. Find out how educators can accurately assess the reliability, validity and authority of the massive amounts of information retrieved from the Web. This workshop defines information literacy and familiarizes educators with the effective use of information literacy in their own jobs and in the classroom.


Inspiration7.5: Creating Effective Language Art Activities
Prerequisites: Basic computer skills, basic word processing skills
Learn how to use Inspiration for brainstorming, content mapping, story Webs and as a planning tool for a writing projects. Other Language Arts activities include story sequencing, character Webs, and vocabulary development. Inspiration is a software tool that can be used effectively in all curriculum areas. We will also focus on some of the special features of Version 7.5, such as customizing your own library for easy access and creating your own language arts templates for classroom activities.

We will cover a potpourri of significant technology issues that will help you to help your administration and the rest of your colleagues at your site.

Kidspiration is the new K-3 software from the same company that developed Inspiration. Kidspiration helps students see, organize and develop their ideas. Using the proven principles of visual learning, with audio support at every level, students can brainstorm ideas, organize and categorize information, create stories and explore new concepts. Participants will have the opportunity to create a lesson template, customize the picture palette, and integrate audio. The program has a simple interface that is easy for students to use and learn.

MovieMaker2: Windows XP Digital Storytelling for PC Users

MovieMaker2 is the latest version of the easy-to-use video capturing software that is available as a free download from the Microsoft Web site and was specifically developed for Windows XP. Learn how to import video and still images into a digital storyline. Enhance the storyline by adding titles, transitions, special effects and background music. Participants will have access to a digital video camera, but it is recommended that you bring your own if you do not want to share. (The digital camera must have IEEE 1394 or USB capabilities and the appropriate cable and a DV Tape)

If you are already familiar with the basic features of Microsoft Word, you are ready for this class! You will learn about some amazing time-saving features of this program! Learn how to manage the pesky Autoformat feature. Add pizzaz to your documents with features you probably didn't know existed, Also learn shortcuts to many of the familiar features of this word processing program. Note: we will be using Office 2000 Pro for PC and Office 2001 for the Mac.
