Contra Costa County Office of Education (CCCOE) in partnership with Linda Uhrenholt from AT&T, Adrienne DeWolfe with Region IV CTAP and Eileen C. Walters with CCCOE is hosting a series of webinars covering the issues surrounding Digital Citizenship.

In these sessions, there will be nationally recognized guest speakers and resources including NetSmartz and Common Sense Media. We will also leave time for questions from our participants. 

If you are a site or district Administrator, Teacher Leader or a Technology Leader at a district or school site, we are offering two series for you. 

The first is an "Awareness" Series where you will learn more about Digital Citizenship and several of its components. You can register for one or all. 

The second series is an "Implementation" Series where you will take action and we will walk you through developing a digital citizenship plan for your colleagues, staff and students at your site.

 

Awareness Series

This webinar series will cover topics such as:

Join our presenter, attorney Jan Tomsky, the managing partner of Fagen, Friedman and Fulfrost’s Oakland office.  She has an extensive practice with particular emphasis in special education and student matters, particularly those that involve complex or sensitive issues.

Telecommunications has brought about endless benefits to the students, but along with those benefits, situations have arisen ranging from cyberbullying to cheating in schools. Leaders at all levels face challenges as they search for ways to tackle cyber issues. Recent conflicts in schools pertaining to search and seizure of technological devices have brought attention to these issues. We will cover several of these topics in this session.

This session will include a discussion about the issues of cyberbullying and sexting and how they impact educators on a daily basis.  Participants will be able to use this greater awareness of the issues to advocate for online safety education and a team approach for handling these incidents in schools. A speaker from NetSmartz an educational program of (NCMEC), will be our lead presenter.

In this session we will be covering copyright and fair use.  Copyright infringement occurs when information is used or distributed  without permission of the entity that owns the legal rights to that information. This includes using images, cartoons, music, and software on your website or in a document.  What then are best practices of Fair Use? How can teachers and students safely use these resources in their teaching and learning.  We will cover this and more in this session.

Digital Educators: Training Staff on Awareness and Prevention Strategies
November 15th, 10:00 am - 11:00 am

What can administrators do to train their staff on Cyberbullying and Digital Citizenship? Your staff needs to understand the issues of bullying via electronic means, including social networks. They need to be able to identify students in crisis and support them. Do you have a plan in place? Are your staff trained to see the signs and implement a plan of action or intervention?  Do you have a system of documentation?  Who on your staff has been designated to implement this plan? This session is targeted at counselors as well as principals and teacher leaders at district and school sites.

Do you know when your Acceptable Use Policy was last updated? Does it include mobile technologies, web 2.0 tools, cyber ethics?  As Web tools and mobile devices become more prevalent, will your district bann these tools or find ways to leverage them in the curriculum?  Walk through resources to help you build, update or strengthen your current Acceptable Use Policy.  Learn how your site can develop a team of student experts or trustees to help guide their peers in the ethical use of mobile technologies.  Develop a system of support when infractions are witnessed.
