The Contra Costa Couty Office of Education provides 170 state-of-the-art career development classes annually to over 13,000 students and adults. The high school program includes a broad range of academically focused career courses such as Animation, Biotechnology, Careers in Education, Computer Programming, Emergency Medical Services, Environmental Science, Fire Science, Forensics, Sports Medicine, and Video Production. Among the 74 ROPs in California, Contra Costa County ROP is the leader in the number of courses which have earned U.C.'s "a-g" approval.

ROP's job training courses for adults are located throughout the County. Adult courses include high demand health specialties such as Clinical Medical Assistant, Certified Nurse Assistant, Medical Front Office; Process Plant Operator training in partnership with Chevron; and computer courses such as Computer Applications and Web design.

What Is ROP?

ROP is the Contra Costa County Office of Education's career training program designed for high school juniors and seniors. The goal of ROP is to help students gain knowledge and skills for future careers.

In addition to the skills developed for specific fields, each class helps students develop a résumé, review effective interviewing techniques and identify sources of employment. Students also complete a portfolio of their classwork.

ROP can also be an excellent way to prepare for college. If students are uncertain of their college major or career choice, ROP gives them a chance to explore a career field. They can also use the skills they develop in ROP to gain higher paying part-time work to help pay college expenses. Contra Costa County ROP is a leader in college prep courses with 34 UC "a-g" approved course offerings.

Internships and hands-on experience provide students the opportunity to "try-out" career choices before investing time and money in college or post secondary training.

ROP also offers job training opportunities for adults who need to upgrade existing skills or acquire new ones. ROP staff assist adult students with job search information and interview preparation.
