We provide a variety of specialized services for the community at large, including job search activities for limited English speakers, the disabled and the economically disadvantaged, training and certification for group home caregivers, preschool teacher training and educational data reporting. Career Development Progam Special Projects Include:
CalWORKs Projects CalWORKs serves individuals who are clients of the County Employment and Human Services Department. Most individuals are on TANF for financial assistance. All ROP adult classes are open to CalWORKs clients. A custom program designed for CalWORKs clients includes training for employment in preschool and child care facilities, internships, and academic tutoring.
Carl Perkins 132 Project Carl Perkins clients are individuals enrolled in ROP training classes who are identified as disadvantaged in one or more of the following categories: physical handicaps, economically disadvantaged, educationally disadvantaged and/or entering a nontraditional occupation. Through this project, the Career Development Program provides supplemental services to help Carl Perkins clients succeed.
Cosmetology ROP contracts with three local beauty schools to provide training to students. Paris Beauty College in Concord and World Visions College of Cosmetology in Oakland offers cosmetology, manicuring, and aesthetician classes. Delta Beauty College in Antioch offers cosmetology and manicuring.
Direct Support Professional (DSP) Program Through an agreement with the California Department of Developmental Services, the Career Development Program provides testing, training, and certification of community care facility staff and administrators. All direct care staff in over 130 community care facilities in Contra Costa County, Albany, and Berkeley are required to become certified.
Refugee
Services The Career Development Program provides employment services for refugees which include job search skills, referral, tracking, support services, and job placement.
WorkAbility II Project WorkAbility II students are clients of the California Department of Rehabilitation. These clients receive supplemental assistance in areas such as academic and/or technical skill tutoring, job search skills, resume development, interviewing techniques, job placement and frequent monitoring by a Career Development Program specialist.
