Health Plans
Health coverage is available to eligible employees and their dependents through the CalPERS Health Plans system. The agency pays the premium cost for two-party Kaiser. Through payroll deduction the employee may enroll in additional coverage. View 2011 rate chart (PDF)

Dental Plan
All eligible employees must participate in the Delta Dental Service plan. The agency pays the premium cost equivalent to the two-party Delta Dental rate. The employee through payroll deduction pays costs in excess of that amount.

Vision Coverage
All eligible employees and their dependents can participate in the VSP Eye Care Health Plan. COE pays the full premium for two-party coverage.

In Lieu of Benefits
If an employee does not need health and/or vision coverage under the COE group plans, they will receive $422.13 in cash monthly. However, any agency paid benefits (medical, dental, or vision) will be deducted from this amount.

Sick Leave/Personal Necessity
Sick leave is earned at the rate of one (1) day per month. Unused sick leave will accrue from year to year. An employee may use his/her accumulated sick leave in cases of personal necessity. Use of sick leave under this provision may not exceed ten (10) days in any fiscal year.

Holidays
Employees who work full-time qualify for 13 paid holidays and 1 floating paid holiday annually.

Vacation
The vacation accrual rate for full-time employees is 22 days per year. Part-time employees earn vacation on a prorated basis. Vacation time is accrued during the first six months of employment but cannot be used until employee has passed the probationary period.

Retirement Benefits
Classified employees are enrolled in the the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), which is an employer/employee contributory plan.

Social Security
All employees enrolled in PERS contribute to Social Security unless specifically exempted by the retirement law.

Disability Coverage
CONFIDENTIAL employees are eligible to apply for State Disability Insurance benefits through the California State Employment Development Department. Disability insurance payments are integrated with available sick leave benefits. Management and Professional Administrative employees are not eligible for this benefit.

Recognition for Schooling
Full-time CONFIDENTIAL employees are eligible to receive reimbursement of up to $300 annually for tuition and book expenses. Additionally, full-time CONFIDENTIAL employees are eligible for an annual stipend of up to $600 for completion of approved college courses. Management and Professional Administrative employees are not eligible for this benefit.

Life; Accidental Death & Dismemberment; Short Term, and Long Term Disability Insurance
MANAGEMENT, PROFESSIONAL ADMISINSTRATIVE, and CONFIDENTIAL employees are provided with district-paid:

  • $50,000 Life Insurance
  • $50,000 Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance
  • Short Term Disability Insurance
  • Long Term Disability Insurance

There are additional voluntary benefits available through payroll deduction (i.e. Term life, Disability, Cancer) from the following companies:

  • Prudential
  • Colonial Insurance
  • Pacific Educators
  • American Fidelity
  • AVP Vision
